Axial Seals

The axial seals of Freudenberg Sealing Technologies are simple sealing elements that are particularly well-suited for use in combination with radial shaft seals, for example, against dirt, dust, grease and spray water. They consist of two components: a coated metal ring and a moulded, vulcanised elastomer sealing element. The metal ring protects the elastomer sealing element against damage. The axial seals have a good, dynamic sealing effect and low requirements on the integrated running surface in regard to surface quality.

Axial seals with single sealing element
Axial seals from Freudenberg Sealing Technologies are a single sealing element offering outstanding sealing effect providing reliable protection against dirt, dust, grease and spraywater. They are particularly well suited to use in combination with radial shaft seals.
The axial seals from Freudenberg Sealing Technologies provide an excellent, dynamic sealing effect and have minimal requirements for the integrated running surface with regard to surface quality. No additional axial limit stop is required. Axial seals are used with great success in various fields including drive technology and mechanical engineering, such as in electric motors, construction machinery, anti-friction bearing housings, pumps and washing machines.
Axial seals: comprising two components
Freudenberg Sealing Technologies offers different axial seal variants. These consist of two components: a coated metal ring and a moulded, vulcanised elastomer sealing element. The metal ring protects the elastomer seal against damage, is used as a mount and support for the elastomer seal and also acts as a centrifugal disc. The elastomer seal is expanded on the metal ring and is also held by the axial flanged collar.
For applications with very high requirements, the axial seal is also used as a labyrinth seal. To achieve this, the metal ring on the outer casing is extended in the axial direction. In combination with the all-round groove in the axial running surface, an additional labyrinth seal is formed.
Axial seals: Centrifuge effect supports sealing function
The VRM axial seal generates a centrifuge effect via the metal ring, and this supports the already excellent sealing function. This removes dust, dirt and spraywater via centrifugal action. With increasing circumferential speed, the elastomer sealing element is shifted outwards by the centrifugal force and reduces the contact point. Above a certain circumferential speed, the sealing lip lifts off completely from the metallic running surface, meaning the axial seal then only acts as a gap seal and thrower ring.
